BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.1 percent to 2,811.03 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.11 percent lower at 8,172.21 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 705.73 billion yuan (about 99.36 billion U.S. dollars), down from 876.59 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares related to the insurance sector as well as the coal mining and processing sectors led the gains, while the liquor sector suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.75 percent to close at 1,536.95 points on Monday. ■
